Tropicana orange juice recently became the first consumer product in the US to become carbon certified. Tropicana teamed up with The Carbon Trust to calculate the carbon/environmental footprint of their 64-oz carton of pure premium orange juice from grove to grocery store to consumers’ homes, so they could take steps in reducing it. Using this process, the estimated carbon footprint for a 64-ounce carton of Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice is 1.7 kilograms.
Tropicana's initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint include developing a comprehensive resource conservation program for all their plants in North America; buying and using greenhouse gas-neutral energy sources where available; and training suppliers to join in emissions-reducing initiatives.
This PepsiCo press release gives all the details. (PepsiCo is the parent company of Tropicana.)
